I used to say that I had a love hate relationship with this Indonesian island, but things changed: I am totally in love with this little green paradise! Due to its popularity the island went through massive changes the last years. The first time I decided to visit Bali was in 2010 and back then it was not at all a favourite: I got sick, it rained all the time and traffic was horrendous!
If you are not sure what to do in Bali then you should put ‘Ubud’ on top of your list. This village just an hour drive North from the popular beaches in the South is perched in and between rice fields and is where you will find the authentic Bali feeling.
Lately I stayed in a fairly new resort just a little North of Ubud center. I knew Blue Karma Ubud through social media and already sent some friends over there before I even tried it out myself. From what I could see on the pictures it was a really cute green resort with private villas surrounded by jungle and rice fields and isn’t that exactly what you are looking for when spending your holiday in Ubud? In the beginning of November I checked in for 3 nights to experience the resort myself.
What to do in Canggu? An easy question to answer: eat, relax, beach, surf, enjoy, repeat! With so many cool places around you are spoiled for choice so I made a list of Canggu things to do and go eat.
While searching for a holiday destination money is for mostly everyone always an issue. Of course you are willing to spend a little extra because yes it is your holiday, but when you travel there are more things you have to think about. Travelling is not like a holiday I have explained that many times in other articles. When travelling you are always looking to find the right balance between comfort and price and that is exactly one of the reasons why Asia is so popular for travellers: the value for money is the best in the world! Bali on a budget does not mean you stay in shabby places or eat crappy food at all! Go for it, you will be fine!
Ubud is one of my favourite destinations in Bali so it was no surprise that I lately ended up here again. This time I wanted to stay a little longer and I searched for a house for rent in Ubud. It depends of course how picky you are, but don’t picture yourself coming into town in the early morning and the same evening you are chilling in your private villa in Ubud. It is all a little more complicated and remember you are in Indonesia; everything takes a little more time here!
With so many tourists visiting this tiny island, Bali is notorious for its traffic. This was one of the reasons I seriously did not like it when I first visited and that was back in 2010. The traffic back then was horrendous. Trust me it got even worse over the years, but I do love the island nowadays. How is that possible? Just avoid the overcrowded touristy areas like Seminyak and Kuta and you will find some truly magical places this island has to offer.
A lovely luxurious retreat in Balinese style: Tugu Hotel Bali is not your standard resort, it is a very authentic and artistic place. Sleeping in Tugu Hotel Bali is like sleeping in a museum. This is my review of the best place in hip and popular Canggu.
