You know that feeling when you come home from a holiday and the first couple days your mind is still at that amazing place? Amplify that by 10 and that is how I still feel exactly a month after I left Lux South Ari Atoll Maldives. I have been staying in a lot of fancy hotels & resorts all over the world and every experience seems even more amazing than the previous one, but almost a week on such a paradise island is hard to top.
There are so many 5 star resorts in Maldives that it is hard to choose the right one and I can understand that everyone thinks that all resorts are the same, but nope that is a complete misunderstanding! First of all not all resorts are 5 star, second biggest mistake is that all Maldives resorts have over water bungalows. Then there are the all-inclusive resorts or those that are very exclusive and most people are unable to afford.
My second resort after a week in the Maldives with Maldives TV was one away from the North Male Atoll. About 60 kilometers East of the capital there is a little Atoll called Rasdhoo and coincidentally I had already been there last year on my first visit to Maldives. Rasdhoo itself though is a local island and in 2016 I took a local boat to live like a local in Maldives. This time I traveled to an island next to it: Kuramathi Island Resort.
It was my first time in Maldives and I was about to head to one of the most remote islands of the country. The moment I wanted to check in for my domestic flight to GAN Airport there came someone up to me asking if I was Mr. Grond. Please sir follow me to the lounge… I guess my dream trip just started! Being invited to a conference in the Maldives was to me like winning the jackpot. Yes I want to come speak at your event in paradise but don’t expect me to fly home straight after. I requested my flight out of Maldives 2 weeks later as I wanted to make the most of this trip and stay as long as I could. When people asked me how long I would stay I answered as long as I get free accommodation! ;)
It was sad saying goodbye at the Lux South Ari Atoll but there was not a lot of time to deal with that as a new adventure was waiting. I landed back again on Male International Airport island and made my way to the Anantara private lounge. Unlike 99% of the resorts Anantara does not have a little booth where you have to present yourself, Anantara has a little private lounge for its guests to relax after their mostly exhausting flight. It did only take a couple minutes though before my speedboat transfer was ready for departure. Naladhu Private Island is part of the Anantara Hotel Group and is one of those Maldives hotels with speedboat transfer. The boat ride took only about 40 minutes and there was the team of Naladhu waiting for my arrival.
How many flights I board a year? I don’t know anymore to be honest. I used to keep track of that and remember in 2013 and 104 that were about 50 a year. Nowadays it is a little bit less, but the last weeks I flew from Bali to Amsterdam with KLM, then from Amsterdam a return trip to Vietnam with Emirates and then left Holland again to fly to Maldives and back to Europe with Qatar Airways.
Going to the Maldives is a dream for everyone that loves paradise destinations. Not only for honeymooners even for very experienced travel writers from all over the world. There was a little confusion about the event taking place or not, but not a single travel writer bailed out as everyone desperately wanted to be included in this amazing event held on such a unique location in the world. The Maldives is a dream destination and although it was my second time visiting this unique country I was excited to board my flight from Europe with Qatar Airways on my way to paradise.
