Forget about the ocean, plan your summer holiday in the mountains! The Dolomites are the ultimate playground for those looking for an active vacation. Alta Badia has not only amazing things to do it also offers fantastic gastronomy and very laid-back and welcoming people.

This summer on my roadtrip through the Germany, Austria and Italy I ended up in the mountain villages around Alta Badia. I stayed in Natur Hotel Miraval in La Villa and explored the nearby towns of San Cassiano, Colfosco and Corvara on foot, by bike and took several gondolas. Alta Badia is sincerely a great summer destination to visit!

  • Hilton Molino Stucky Venice | Waterfront with Amazing Venice Views

Italy was our first destination ever since Corona had put the world on hold. From our Dutch government there are many travel restrictions in place, which leaves very few destinations, all within Europe, open for us to travel to. Early September, Italy was one of the few places we could freely travel to. That plus the fact that we had never properly explored Italy before, made us decide to choose Italy as next destination.

  • Hotel Winkler Sport & Spa Resort | Dolomites Wellness Haven

I have said it before, travelling the Dolomites and South Tyrol in particular, it often feels like you’re travelling through Austria. It’s the mountains combined with the traditional alpine chalets, and red geraniums hanging from the balconies.

Arriving at Hotel Winkler Sport & Spa Resort we were slightly confused. It was again a classic alpine chalet we arrived at. We had checked the hotel online, and photos showed a very luxurious and modern hotel. Walking up to the entrance of the hotel, we honestly thought we were at the wrong Winkler Hotel. But then, walking through the entrance it’s like going through a time machine, from traditional alpine to extremely modern and luxurious. Absolutely fantastic!

  • La Maiena Meran Resort | The Top of Meran

After 6 months of staying at home and exploring only our own Netherlands, it was finally time to cross borders again and have our first trip abroad since the Corona pandemic. With still many travel restrictions in place, our destinations were limited. But nevertheless, we managed to pick an awesome destination for this first trip after Corona.

  • My 3-week road trip through Germany, Austria and Italy

First world problems because of Corona: where to travel this summer? But for real guys… don’t forget to be grateful for having a European passport that makes it possible to travel around the world so easily in the first place. Lockdown? Don’t forget to some people are forever in a ‘lockdown’ simply because their passport makes it impossible to travel!

Our first world problems aren’t really a problem, it is just an issue!

  • Nature & Active Hotel Rogen | Oasis of Peace & Tranquility

When we travelled the Dolomites early September 2020, we picked several stops to cover most of the Dolomites from west to east. So after starting the trip in Merano, we made our way east, having our next stop north of Merano.

A beautiful family-run hotel near the town of Mühlbach, about 50km north of Bolzano and 30km north of the amazing St. Magdalena. We made Nature & Active Hotel Rogen our next stop, which turned out to be a pretty sweet decision.

  • Ultimate Relaxation at Hotel Saltus, San Genesio

Rooftop pools with views over the Dolomites, chirping birds as my wake up call and a brand new hotel were the ingredients that lured me to a little village up in the hills in Bolzano, South Tyrol. The next coming nights I was staying in Hotel Saltus in San Genesio, a new eco friendly luxury hotel.

Some of my friends were telling me for a couple years now to visit San Genesio. So when this summer I was on a road trip in the Dolomites I figured I could finally see what the fuzz was about. While staying at Hotel Saltus I found the relaxing time that I craved so much after my already 2 week road trip in the Dolomites.

  • Views for days at Hotel Chalet Mirabell - The Pearl of South Tyrol

My summer trips to the Alps had never been this luxurious, but Hotel Chalet Mirabell made me realize that the serenity of the mountains and the luxury of a beautiful chalet are together combined the ultimate ingredients to make me smile from the moment I wake up until I fall asleep.

Happy as a kid when I walked in, very sad to leave, but a fabulous experience, one I won’t quickly forget about. Staying in Hotel Chalet Mirabell in Merano, South Tyrol was a dream coming true.
