Off the beaten path places to stay in Koh Tao
The Rock is attracting more and more tourists and not only backpackers are finding its way to the most secluded island in the Gulf of Thailand. With more honeymooners and nature lovers coming to the island Bamboo Huts is the perfect Koh Tao accommodation for this group of travellers. The location is unique, as there is no road access to the bungalows. Talking about an off the beaten path location then this is probably the best place to stay in Koh Tao. One of the best hotels in Koh Tao
The lovely staff took care of my luggage as it was a bit of a hike to my bungalow. The charming narrow footpaths through the bamboo trees lead to 19 different huts. There is no beach as the resort is nestled on the rocky coast, but within a few minutes walking you will find lovely isolated bays. Jansom Bay to the north and Sai Nuan Beach to the south are both secluded beaches where you will hardly encounter any other tourists. The beaches are only accessible on foot or by boat. My favorite was Sai Nuan Beach as Jansom Bay is also part of the Charm Churee Resort and therefore was a bit more crowded.

Some huts come with a private pool which definitely makes it one of those unique places to stay in Koh Tao. I was lucky to get one of these amazing private pool villas. Relaxing in my own pool and staring at the crystal clear seawater below was an amazing experience. The watermelon and the vodka also helped of course! LOL. I wish the pool had a little more privacy though!

There are stairs that take you down to the ocean if you want to go for a swim or snorkel around the house reef of the resort. Bring your snorkel gear! I am a diver, but I thought lets give it a chance. I loved it, got lost in time and came back as red as a lobster. Don’t forget to apply sunblock when you go snorkeling! ;)
Adult only resort
The resort employs an age restriction and therefore it is an adult only resort. This obviously adds up to the serenity in which you will enjoy your holiday. If you are looking for a bustling spot in Koh Tao then this is definitely not your place! Koh Tao is famous for its sunsets but enjoying them in a private pool in Bamboo Huts was fantastic. My own drinks, some fresh fruits and the only thing you could hear were some local longtail boats passing by in the distance. Some of them actually make a horrible noise to be honest. Sorry I didnt wanna ruin your dream... ;)
Another adults only resort in Thailand is the luxury resort in Koh Lanta: Layana Resorts & Spa.
My room was not the biggest, but to me it was perfect. It is called Bamboo Huts for a reason and my cozy bungalow totally lived up to my expectations. It had a television, a safe, a fridge, air-conditioning and a lovely bathroom with an outdoor shower! My stay was seemingly perfect though the Wi-Fi was something the hotel could improve on. I know it is a problem on Koh Tao in general, therefore I recommend you buying a sim card in Thailand.
Prepare to enjoy yourself after sunset, as there is nothing to do in the near surrounding. The isolated resort is about 20 minutes walk to the main village Mae Haad and the road that leads this way is pretty dark. Get a taxi or prepare to walk up a steep hill! Dont mind hiking? Then you will be happy to read about these 5 amazing Koh Tao Viewpoints or let me tell you the things to do in Koh Tao.
Unique places to stay in Koh Tao
If you are looking for a place to enjoy with your company then Bamboo Huts is great value for money and a perfect getaway to enjoy a holiday in a secluded private bungalow perched above the sea. It is not a 5* luxury resort, but you get what you pay for. The location is the most amazing feature, as you will wake up with the sound of the ocean! I really loved my stay here and if you want to get away from the crowds in Koh Tao then this is your type of resort!
