In June 2016 after visiting Thailand for more than 10 times I finally got to travel to Koh Lanta for the first time. I was invited to come and review Crown Lanta Resort & Spa and give my opinion about their resort. Crown Lanta is situated on the tip of a tiny peninsula in the North of Koh Lanta. Tucked away from the mass tourism of the popular East side of Koh Lanta, the Crown Lanta Resort and Spa has a fabulous location. In this review I will discuss all the things you need to know before you book the Crown Lanta Resort.
Thinking about adding Koh Lanta to your Thailand itinerary? To me it was a blessing while island hopping in Thailand, because Koh Lanta feels completely different than most other Thai islands. Mass tourism has not touched base in Koh Lanta yet, at least that is what the island vibe makes me believe. Therefore I reckon this island in Thailand is always a good idea to visit.

I headed from Krabi to Koh Lanta by boat and as soon as I arrived there was a friendly guy holding a sign in his hands saying: TRAVELTOMTOM. Within a few minutes we already reached the resort and I got to check in super quickly.
How to get to Koh Lanta
Nowadays you don't even need a boat ride anymore to get to the island. Koh Lanta got connected to the mainland by a bridge. Still you can travel by boat as well. Depending where you come from. Upon arrival at Crown Lanta Resort & Spa you can already see the shape of the peninsula as the road leading towards the hotel has beaches on both sides. Hotel rooms and private villas are scattered over the peninsula and the further from the reception you get, the better the views get. The buggy bringing me to my room had to cross a steep hill, but the views on the other side where fantastic. My villa was facing West and had therefore splendid sunset views.
The breakfast room, the main pool, the private beach and the Reggea Bar were all on this side of the hill too. It a little challenging to walk around the resort, roads are steep, but the hotel offers an excellent buggy service. Traveling in Thailand is always a little adventure.
Rooms at Crown Lanta Koh Lanta
My room was super spacious and had a separate living area with its own AC as well. It is officially a 2-person villa but there were 2 big sofas as well.
A cool feature was the double-sided closet, which opened in the bedroom, but also in the bathroom. The equally spacious bathroom has a shower with amazing ocean views.
The view from our private balcony with sunbeds over nearby Koh Phi Phi was amazing. Unfortunately some trees need to be trimmed as they were partially blocking the view.
The villa came with free WiFi, which was fast and reliable. Throughout the resort there is free WiFi available, but there are over 30 hotspots, so you constantly have to log in. Luckily this changed nowadays. I have not been back since, but some readers told me. WiFi in 2019 is now on point!
Facilities Crown Lanta Resort & Spa
Cycling around the peninsula and into the main town in the North is a must do and it is great that the hotel offers complimentary bikes for its guests. Don’t worry about traffic as you are on a peninsula and there are hardly any cars in this area of Koh Lanta. There are some nearby public beaches to check out or go out for dinner on a bike. The resorts concierge can also arrange a scooter for you to explore the rest of the island.
The resort has a simple gym, but good enough for a small daily workout. I also tried out the Spa at Crown Lanta and enjoyed it very much. They also offer massages at the pool area or at the private beach.
Another great feature of the resort is the Reggea Bar which is tucked away down at the shoreline but in perfect alignment with the sunset, so drinking a sundowner here is definitely a must do with such great sunsets.
Private Beach Koh Lanta
The hotel has a secluded beach, which is accessible by a staircase from the resort. Just a couple steps down and you have your own beach.
By the time I was in the resort I found out that most guests were hanging at the pool and the beach was empty always. The hotel provides sunbeds and towels. The upper pool has enough beds and there is no need in reserving a good spot.

Restaurant Crown Lanta
One night we tried out the restaurant and that was so so. For breakfast the Peak is a cool place with great ocean views. The buffet breakfast is nice and like everywhere in Thailand there is plenty of choice.
Hilltop Villa Crown Lanta
The most exclusive villa available is the Hilltop Villa that comes with a private pool. It has a unique location on top of the cliffs with the ocean just below your bedroom. This is of course the most expensive option, but they villa has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a seperate living room. Here are some videos and photos from this luxury villa.
Overall review Crown Lanta Resort & Spa
Overall I really loved my stay in Crown Lanta, a lovely resort on a great location. The secluded location makes it a perfect retreat to unwind. Like many hotels and resorts in Thailand Crown Lanta Resort & Spa is great value for money and of course has adorable staff!
