The Sofitel So Bangkok only opened in 2012. A fashionable and trendy hotel, located at the beginning of Sathorn Road in front of Lumpini Park, Bangkok’s largest green area. So Sofitel is all about art and style; chic but playful. It was the famous French designer Christian Lacroix who designed the hotel’s interior, the staff uniforms and the executive lounge. On my trip to Thailand in 2017 I had the privilege of staying there and write a Sofitel So Bangkok review.
You are most probably about to travel to Thailand and I am happy and excited for you. Over the last 10 years Thailand has been my most visited country. I not only backpacked around, but also partied, lived and traveled for my blog through the country. This resulted in almost 50 Thailand travel blogs and Im striving to keep you updated with Thailand travel tips as much as I can. Have a look at my suggested Thailand itineraries or my latest blogs about what to bring or how to get best low-cost airlines in Thailand.
Location Sofitel So Bangkok
The hotel’s location is very convenient with just a short 10-minute walk to Silom Road, my favourite neighbourhood in Bangkok, where you can find everything you expect in Bangkok: nightlife, street food, (night) markets and shopping malls. Just across from the hotel you can enter the underground system that brings you everywhere within the city center.

Check-in Sofitel So Bangkok
The smooth check-in is something that makes the So Bangkok stand out from other hotels for sure. Upon arrival my bags were taken from me and I was guided to the 9th floor where I enjoyed their signature drink, a drink that changes colour every time another substance is added. I handed over my passport and received a WI-Fi code to sit back and relax. The Park Lobby on the 9th floor is a huge and airy welcoming area where guests are blown away by the fantastic view over the Lumpini Park.
Rooms Sofitel So Bangkok
There are 4 different types of rooms to chose from when making your booking. I had a chance to see all the rooms and they differ so much from each other that it feels like you are walking around in another hotel. Each floor has its own theme according to the Chinese 5 elements: water, wood, earth, metal and fire. Rooms all have different interiors, designed by renowned Thai artists.
I chose to stay in a water themed room and I did not regret that a single second. Walking in to my room I stumbled upon my bathtub in front of the floor-to-ceiling window with incredible views over the Lumpini Park and the Bangkok skyline. How could I not love this room?
The rooms feature more than the standard luxury amenities. First of all the mini bar is included, which is pretty chilled. Every room is equipped with an Apple TV device and the possibility to surf the internet on a big TV screen. Perfect for playing YouTube music videos.

Food and drinks at So Sofitel Bangkok
The hotel has two restaurants and three bars. The Red Oven restaurant, which features the largest oven in Asia, was where in the morning I enjoyed a great buffet breakfast. They serve everything you desire in a great setting with of course amazing views over the Lumpini Park.
The Park Society Restaurant on the top floor where the vistas over the Bangkok skyline get even better serves excellent a la carte food, but what I liked more are the two open-air sky bars: Park Society Terrace and the Hi-So Bar. The moderate price level and quiet setting make these bars an excellent venue to start your night out in Bangkok. Great features up here are the lounges where you can chill out and take in the view. Although this is one of my favorite roof top bars in Bangkok there are plenty more. Check out my guide about unique things to do in Bangkok to find out more about this crazy city.
Additional the hotel houses a Chocolab on the ground floor. Walk in and indulge yourself a little. They also offer a brunch where you can try their complete selection, a perfect activity on a rainy day. Or sign up to create your own chocolate.
Hotel features So Sofitel Bangkok
The best feature of the hotel is their large infinity pool with the best view of Bangkok. Overlooking Lumpini Park below and the Bangkok skyline in the distance, it can hardly get any better. Though one time per month it does get better as the hotel organises the best party in Bangkok: So Sofitel Pool Party. It is held every last Saturday of the month, check out their Facebook Page or Instagram account (@SofitelSoBKK) for the latest news.
There is also a small gym with the same stunning views of Bangkok. The Spa will probably come with the same view but I did not get a chance to experience this. There are more cool luxury hotels in Bangkok, some more urban, some even more exclusive. Click on the link to find out my favorites.
