It was not my first time skiing in Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. Last year winter I was here already the 4th time and last July I even enjoyed Saalbach in summer. Seeing the mountains of Salzburgerland in summer was a great experience, but I still prefer winter trips to Austria. So when I got a chance to review Stockinggut Leogang I didn’t hesitate a second.
Stockinggut Leogang is the latest addition to the Alpin Rentals collection. The Alpin Rentals company strives to give its guests a care free affordable luxury holiday in Austria. They offer affordable luxury apartments and chalets in Kaprun, Zell am See, Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Leogang. Last year I stayed in the 24 by Avenida in Karpun.
Where is Leogang
Leogang is part of the Zell am See district located only 40 km from the German border. The easiest way to get to Leogang is from Salzburg or Munchen Airport. Salzburg Airport is 66 km away and Munchen Airport is 170 km away. There are shuttle services available!
If you are driving from the Netherlands or Germany then it is easiest to drive in the Munchen direction, cross the border at Kufstein and drive for a little less then an hour through the beautiful mountains before you reach Leogang. From Amsterdam it is 970 km and takes about 10 hours. From Berlin to Leogang is 740 km.
Snowboarding is life and for many many years i have roamed around the Austrian and Italian Alps finding the best ski resorts. Here are some of my favorite ones: Dolomiti Superski, Solden, Hintertux and Obertauern.
Skipass Leogang
A couple years ago the Leogang ski resort got connected to the Saalbach skicircus. The famous Saalbach Hinterglemm ski resort is just across the mountain and connected by ski lifts. In 2018 the Tyrollean ski resort of Fieberbrunn also got connected and there are plans to connect the Zell am See ski resort as well.
In total the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn has 270 kilometers groomed slopes, 70 lifts, 60 mountain huts, 140 km blue, 112 km red and 18 km black slopes. Gondolas and ski resorts are ultra modern.
The Leogang ski resort is built around two modern big gondolas: the Steinbergbahn and the Asitzbahn. One of the best things about Stockinggut by Avenida Leogang is that it is located just footsteps away from the slope underneath the Steinbergbahn gondola.
Funny fact about skiing in Leogang is that the runs down to the base do not end in Leogang city center. As Stockinggut by Avenida is located on the slopes there was no need to go into town. Apres ski is on top of the mountain, within walking distance or around the fireplace at Stockinggut.
Check in
Over the last weeks it snowed so much in Austria that the amount of snow actually became a problem. Roads were blocked and avalanches caused a lot of trouble. Luckily when I started my trip to Austria everything was back to normal. Stockinggut is located right on the slope at the end of the road. The road uphill from the Steinbergbahn to Stockinggut by Avenida was full of snow, but we managed pretty easily without tire chains.
At check-in I was handed my skipass for the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. At Stockinggut by Avenida you can buy your skipass at reception.
Luckily Stockinggut by Avenida Leogang has a big underground car park where we could park our car. The lift from the car park brought us straight to our apartment.
Rooms Stockinggut by Avenida Leogang
I took this ski trip to Austria with 2 friends and my little brother and we had a two bedroom apartment. Our apartment had a spacious living room with a fully equiped kitchen, a sofa and a dining table. The living room had a big balcony that overlooked the slopes of Leogang. It was my first skiing trip to Austria that I had a room with views over the pistes. There is a Nespresso machine including cups in every room.
It was possible to lock one bedroom out of the apartment with a double door and it had its own entrance. This room also had its private bathroom with walk in rain shower. The private bedroom also had a mini bar with a red bull, some beers and some soft drinks. The first round is always on the house!
Like in all Alpin Rentals properties bathrooms have Rituals toiletries to use and are refilled every day.
Ski in ski out
Throughout this Stockinggut by Avenida review I already mentioned it a couple times, but the ski in ski out experience was so extremely chill. I never really had it before. A hotel close to the slopes is nice, but literally ski in and ski out feels amazing. On my way back I could make a powder run and 30 seconds later I stood in front of Stockinggut by Avenida.
Because of the ski in ski out option I went snowboarding in the early morning before breakfast twice. Getting the first lift up is one of the best ways to enjoy perfectly groomed tracks. A little more than an hour later when I already skied more than 15 km I snowboarded back to Stockinggut to enjoy a well deserved breakfast.
Lifts open early
Something I really loved about the Leogang ski resort is that the modern gondolas open very early. Unlike in most ski resorts in Austria the gondolas start running at 08.00 already.
Best slope in the skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn
This is of course very subjective but I have now been to the skicircus multiple times. The blue run 92 that starts on top of Leogang and runs down along the Steinbergbahn is one of my favorites. Stockinggut by Avenida Leogang is the first hotel on this slope that you will come across, about 500 meter from the base. This 5 km long run has a bunch of free ride opportunities and tree skiing as well! Simply fabulous!
Breakfast
There is a buffet breakfast and eggs are cooked to order. Breakfast is from 7.00 till 11.00 so if you first want to make some runs on the slopes first there is plenty of time to have breakfast after.
Huts on top of Leogang
On top of the mountain in Leogang where both the Steinbergerbahn and the Asitzbahn come together there are two iconic huts in the Skicircus Saalbach: Hendl Fischerei and Alte Schmiede. Alte Schmiede is a typical Austrian mountain hut and one of the best in the skicircus. One of the coolest things about Leogang is that there is apres ski on top of the mountain. While we were sitting in out room late at night there were still people skiing down the mountain with flashlights. Those were the ones that were enjoying the apres ski on top of the mountain. For some reason I never stayed up there (stupid), but next time you will find me there for sure!
Restaurant Stockinggut Leogang
May be it was the Stockinggut by Leogang restaurant that made me come down the mountain early every day! Damn it the food was so amazing! As I told you I also stayed in 24 by Avenida in Kaprun and thought they had fabulous food. I must say though I liked the Stockinggut Leogang restaurant even more. The menu has so many different things to offer that it is hard to choose. Soups, salads, sushi, steaks, fish, truffle dishes, pastas, king prawns and even lobsters. I tried mostly everything on the menu and was impressed every time.
Some of my favorites were: Spicy Kurbis-Curry Soup, Tartare, Tuna Maki, Surf & Turf.
Wellness
There is a gym but way too small for me. It only has a treadmill and a home trainer, no free weights. This is in huge contrast with the wellness area which to me was surprisingly big. There are two infra red chairs I had never seen before. There are 4 lounge chairs outside and 6 lounge chairs inside and two different saunas. One of 60 degrees and one of 90 degrees. Unfortunately I had not much time to really enjoy the sauna as much as I had hoped to. But every time I went to have a look it was not busy.
Review Stockinggut by Avenida Leogang
As you can understand I had an absolutely amazing time again at this new Alpin Rentals property in Austria. Stockinggut by Avenida Leogang made me realize I always want a ski in ski out experience on my yearly ski trip to Austria. Unfortunately the great food at the restaurant made me miss a night out on top of the mountain.
