It is not a secret that Solden is one of my favorite ski resorts in Austria. I have been snowboarding in Solden multiple times for many years. This year on my roadtrip through Austria I went snowboarding in Solden again and although I constantly shared my love for Solden with you on my social media channels I thought it was time to write down all you need to know when you go skiing in Solden, Austria.
You probably already know one of my biggest passions is snowboarding, but because of my winter holiday to Obertauern in Austria I got in touch with more than just snowboarding. I got in touch with snowkiting and snowbiking and felt in love in an instant.
When I was young I learned to snowboard in skigebiet Saalbach Hinterglemm, but then did not go for 10 years. This year at the end of the season I went back and reviewed this lovely ski resort for you. I had never thought I would go back to the snow again this winter season. In December I went snowboarding in Kaprun and after I traveled to Bangladesh and my 3 week trip to Maldives I packed my winter gear again for my annual snowboarding trip with my best friends in Italy. After Italy I only planned to go to Berlin for the biggest travel expo in the world and then book a ticket to Georgia to start my adventure on the Silk Road. Things went different though…
For more than 2,5 years I lived an island lifestyle on the most incredible beaches in Asia and Australia and hardly saw the mountains, apart from climbing Mount Rinjani in Lombok. Yes they were calling many times but I didn’t get the chance to answer those calls. Yet a couple weeks ago, right before Christmas there was an opportunity to return to Austria after 2,5 years and it was an easy decision to drive down to Kaprun and stay at Avenida 24 from Alpin Rentals.
Looking for endless groomed runs? Then head to SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser Brixental where 90 lifts connect 280km of tracks! The is the biggest interconnected ski area in Austria connects 8 little villages that all have their own valley run. This is one of the reason you will find numerous huts on the mountains and this area is well-known for its charming atmosphere.
This well-known village in the Zillertal offers great skiing opportunities and is a popular tourist destination. The town got bigger over the last years and development is still going on. Though the center is still very traditional and has a great atmosphere. Located between the Ahorn and the Penken mountains Mayrhofen has a lot of variation to offer from beginners to experts. In total there are 135km of groomed runs, including Austrians steepest groomed run the Harikiri! On the mountain you will find plenty of traditional huts that serve local food for a decent price.
In the beginning of the Zillertal you will find the small village of Kaltenbach. It does not have the traditional Tyrolean ambiance, like most of the ski villages in this part of Austria, but the skiing is good. Since it is also part of the Zillertal 300 lift ticket it is a popular place to go skiing. Interconnected with Hochfügen, the ski resort is called Hochzillertal.
One of the biggest interconnected ski areas in Austria can be found in the Paznaun Valley in Tyrol. The old farming village of Ischgl is situated right on the base of this massive ski resort. Ischgl is sometimes called the Ibiza of the Alps and is not only well-known for its huge ski area. It gained a lot of popularity over the years by hosting huge concenrt on top of the mountain, with big names like Rihanna, Beyonce, Elton John, Katy Perry. Whether you come for the skiing or the après ski, Ischgl will never get boring!
