Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland and is of course known as the hometown of Santa Claus. Every year hundreds of thousands of people visit this city to see their Lapland dream trip come true. Very often activities like snowmobiling, huskies, ice karting and the Northern Lights are high on the agenda, but there is more.
Of course we have done all these incredibly cool activities in Rovaniemi as well, but with this blog we want to show you what else there is to see and do in Rovaniemi. We love nature and all the outdoor possibilities in Rovaniemi, but we also really enjoy visiting a museum every now and then.
Did you know, for example, that there are three very interesting and diverse museums in Rovaniemi?
This blog was written by travel writer and Traveltomtom team member Ashley. She explored the cultural and shopping side of Rovaniemi, on behalf of Traveltomtom, and wrote this blog about her experiences.

Culture Pass Rovaniemi
If you want to go on a cultural tour, the Culture Pass Rovaniemi is perfect. With this pass you get to visit three of Rovaniemi's premier cultural attractions. This Culture Pass is valid for 7 days and within this week you can visit the attractions as many times as you like. You will save money with this pass as it is more affordable than purchasing separate admission tickets.
Museums included with Culture Pass
Three of Rovaniemi's premier and best cultural attractions are included with this Culture Pass.
Arktikum - Arctic Science Center and Museum
Arktikum is a science center and museum that lets you experience northern nature, culture and history. If you really want to learn more about Lapland, you should go to Arktikum!
Also, Arktikum is a place where the mystery of the Northern Lights is revealed with an animation, facts and stories. Very interesting exhibitions about life in the North and so much more. Make sure to visit Arktikum!
Arktikum's architecture is an attraction itself. It is a special building with lots of glass and lots of gardens around it. The shape of the building is like a finger pointing to the North.
Korundi House of Culture
Korundi is a very interesting place in Rovaniemi. It is home to Rovaniemi Art Museum and the Lapland Chamber Orchestra. Combining these Korundi offers a unique perspective of the creativity and culture in the North.
Art exhibitions and concerts go together perfectly here. The Arts Museum has constantly changing exhibitions. We have visited Korundi several times ourselves and each time it is different and there are new things to see. That makes us want to go back again and again to discover what there is to see.
Traveltomtom tip: Lunch at Korundi is a must do! Not many travelers or tourists know about this. But it is the local's favorite place for lunch. Lunch includes salad buffet with a variety of cold sauces, two warm dishes and fresh bread and a cup of coffee or tea and water. All that for just 16 EUR.
Science Center Pilke
As you may know, Finland, and especially Lapland, basically consists only of forests and lakes. If you are attracted to northern forests then Pilke is your place to be.
At Science Center Pilke you can explore the forest with all your senses and from many different angles. There is so much to see and to explore here.
Unlike Korundi and Arktikum, Pilke is quite interactive. In fact, everything is meant to be played with. You can explore northern forests and the use of wood in fun and exciting ways at Science Centre Pilke.
