Traveling to Ireland and landing at Dublin Airport? This guide shows you everything you need to know about buying a sim card at Dublin Airport in 2021. Where to buy one, up to date prices as per June 2021 and info about free Eu roaming. Don't get stuck with high roaming costs or slow and limited overseas data bundles. Get yourself a local sim card, it is fast and easy.

As part of my journey to visit every country in the world I traveled to every European country and all major airports and wrote local sim card guides. In total I have written more than 150 guides all over the world. Some examples are: USA, Canada, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, etc.

Buying a local sim card is the first thing I do when arriving in a new country and it is the easiest, best and cheapest way to stay connected when traveling.

Why buying a sim card at Dublin Airport

First of all to stay connected while traveling. It makes life on the road so much easier. Think about ordering an Uber, finding a cool pub with live music nearby or getting direction from Google Maps. Second, don't rely on public WiFi. There is no guarantee it is working or the speed is sufficient. Third, public WiFi is an UNSECURED network.

Therefore Traveltomtom always recommends buying a local sim card. Dublin Airport is the easiest, fastest and most convenient place to buy your sim card on arrival in Ireland.

My recommendation

Traveltomtom recommends buying a Vodafone sim card for Ireland at Dublin Airport. For €25 you get 20 GB and their network is good.

However, if you want the best sim card deal in Ireland, you will have to wait till Dublin city center. Data packages are unlimited and even cheaper! Check out my article about the best sim card for Ireland.

Traveltomtom does NOT recommend travel sim cards with worldwide coverage. Most of these global sim cards are simply too expensive and NOT worth considering. Check out my article of the best international sim cards and see my comparison and review of all of them.

Where to buy a sim card at Dublin Airport

Strange enough there are more opportunities to buy a sim card at Dublin Airport Terminal 1. This is not where the majority of the intercontinental tourists arrive but well…

At Terminal 1 you can buy an Ireland sim card at the WH Smith shop as well as at the Left Luggage store. You can easily find them either right or left when you enter the arrival hall.

Unfortunately there are very few options for buying a sim card at Dublin Airport and they basically all sell the exact same Ireland sim cards: Lyca Mobile, Vodafone Ireland and 3 Three. There is not much choice when you want to buy a sim card at Dublin Airport

Lycamobile prepaid sim card

A Lyca Mobile activated sim card costs €25, does not come with any package, but give you €20 credit to choose any package you want from their website. For example you can choose 35 GB data in Ireland and unlimited calling and texting in Ireland for €20, but be aware only 5.5 GB can be used for roaming in the EU.

Im personally NOT a fan of Lyca Mobile because there are always these restrictions. So for traveling within Europe I definitely do not recommend buying a Lyca Mobile sim card at Dublin Airport.

They have a couple different Ireland sim cards on offer:

  • €25 = 20 GB data in Europe + 100 minutes calls & unlimited text in Ireland - valid for 30 days.

How to get from Dublin Airport to the city

This is an easy one as there are busses running 24 hours between the airport and the city center. Taxi’s are expensive in Dublin and Uber is kind of non-existing. Busses are the best way to travel from the airport to the city and back. They leave just outside Terminal 1 and 2 and costs between €6 to €8 one-way and take around 30 minutes.
