Travel is our main reason for frequent or even constant use of eSIMs. Ubigi has made the eSIM process for travelers as simple and easy as possible. That is of course something that we greatly welcome and makes us very happy. As a traveler, you don't want to have to go through an endless step-by-step plan or spend hours getting an eSIM and activating the data.
Ubigi offers eSIM cards for more than 200 destinations. They offer local eSIM plans, for example if you only visit one country. They also offer regional eSIM plans, for example a plan for Europe or specifically for Scandinavia and the Baltics. Finally, they also offer World plans that allow you to be and remain connected almost anywhere in the world.

Getting an Ubigi eSIM
Ubigi has made the process of getting an eSIM very easy. Of course, you first determine your destination and once you know that, you have to decide how many Gigabyte data you think you need and for how many days you need the eSIM.
Do you really have no idea how many GB you need during a trip abroad? Ubigi has a handy overview on their website with average consumption. See it as a guideline to determine how many GBs you need.
You can order an eSIMs through the Ubigi website.
They offer a wide range of local eSIM plans. Generally ranging from 3 GB to 50 GB, from $7 USD to $48 USD.
They have a wider range for regional eSIM packages. For the Europe eSIM plans it varies from 500 MB to 60 GB and they even have an eSIM for Europe with unlimited data. Prices for these plans range from $9 USD to $60 USD.
To test Ubigi eSIMs we chose an eSIM for Europe with 25 GB data for 30 days for $36 USD.
The Ubigi website offers a very easy and extensive searching tool to search for eSIM plans for destinations across the world. You can sort their eSIM plans on destination, allowance, validity and price. Very welcome to compare various eSIM plans and making it even more easy to make a decision. You immediately get to see all their options in one overview.
This is definitely something that makes Ubigi unique as not many eSIM providers offer a searching tool like this.
Once you have chosen which eSIM you want, click on 'buy new eSIM'. You fill in all your details and proceed with the payment. Once the payment is successful you will instantly receive a QR code. Scan this QR code to activate your data plan and install your eSIM.
Then create an account with Ubigi to start using your data plan, check your balance and even top up on the go if you need.
Ubigi App
More and more eSIM providers are now offering an app. We find this very useful, because you immediately have insight into which plan is active and how much consumption has already occurred. You can often purchase new plans directly through these apps, so you only have to go to one place for all your eSIM questions and insights.
Many eSIM providers make it mandatory to download the app otherwise you cannot use their services. That is fundamentally different with Ubigi.
Ubigi has developed an app that gives insight into your eSIM plans, where you can easily buy new plans or top up current ones. The big difference is that Ubigi does not require you to download this app for using their eSIMs.
If you prefer not to download the Ubigi app, that's no problem, you can easily buy an eSIM plan via their website and add it to your phone via a manual.
Please note that an Ubigi eSIM is reusable. So after using it for your first destination, don't delete it from your phone, because you can reuse it on a next trip. However, to be able to top up your current Ubigi eSIM you need to download their app.
Ubigi Business
We mentioned it before but Ubigi focusses on more than just eSIMs for travelers. They have created Ubigi for Business for all business travelers. Our honest opinion about Ubigi
Personally, at Traveltomtom we are not much a fan of a dark themed web design. The Ubigi website has a pretty intense dark color scheme, not the most inviting to be honest. However, the Traveltomtom web design is far from perfect! So we understand the difficulties like no other.
But what stands out at Ubigi is the extensive search tool for the best eSIM for your destination. You will see all the eSIM options perfectly listed on top of each other with just the essential info displayed: duration, data plan, price. Perfect!
On top of that something else we really like about Ubigi is the options for getting a monthly and even an annual eSIM. Basically a phone contract like you have from your internet provider at home, but then from an eSIM provider.
May be it is time to check your phone contract and compare it with the available annual eSIM plans from Ubigi.
But to be completely honest, for certain destinations there are definitely cheaper eSIM plans than the ones you can order via Ubigi. In terms of price, we found that Ubigi is at the top end of the eSIM market. Having that said, their service is excellent.
The cheapest eSIM is not always the best eSIM!
While we experienced difficulties getting online with some other eSIM providers, we have not experienced any problems with Ubigi. After scanning the QR code, the process went smoothly. You hardly notice anything happening and you are immediately online.
The Ubigi app is a handy tool, which we really like. But it is not an obligation and that is also an advantage. Especially for those who just quickly want to get an eSIM. Order on the website, scan the QR code and you are all set.
Not everyone wants to download an extra app these days. This is not necessary with Ubigi.
We find it particularly positive that Ubigi focuses more broadly than just travelers. eSIMs can of course be interesting for more target groups than just travelers. With their Ubigi for Business and Ubigi Connected Cars they clearly show that they are aware of this. A connected world is something we all benefit from and with Ubigi we are connected everywhere.
Fun fact: The brand name Ubigi is pronounced 'You-bee-gee'. It originates from the Latin prefix ubig ('everywhere') + gi for 'giga' ('gigabytes').
